go to the auction link under other realms or you can also go the bellydance page and link from there. I will still have the swap page going..so dont worry..it is still up..
www.bellydancerswap.com
NEW SOFAS/SCHWAG!!

DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND (yes, we listen to you!) we now have 12 NEW (well, to us) ultra-cozy love seats in Theater One downstairs at Cerrito - that means seating for 24 patrons, 2 per sofa, unless you're all really tiny or sit on your pal's lap. The black sofas from below have all been moved upstairs, so now we have two rows/10 sofas which can comfortably fit 3 people each in Theater 2 as well. About a third of the notorious red rolling chairs have already been replaced with super-comfy hotel style chairs. The sooner we sell the rest of the red rolling chairs, the sooner they'll all be replaced (though we may keep a few - hey, some of us actually liked 'em!). Watch out Parkway, Cerrito's catching up fast!

But the Parkway is upgrading too - the 18 worn out love seats from Theater 2 Upstairs are now on sale for crazy-cheap, $15. A few have been spoken for since we sent out the first alert, if interested hurry up and email Emily, manager@speakeasytheaters.com, to have yours reserved. Likewise as soon as we get rid of 'em the sooner they will be replaced with newer, improved editions.

By the way, check out the new SPEAKEASY SCHWAG page on our site, there is a picture of the infamous rolling red chair now on sale, for those who may want to take advantage of the discount deal ($50) but haven't actually seen 'em, as well some photos of our brand new customized SPEAKEASY PINTS and MUGS - the Cerrito pints and mugs are now available at the theater, the Parkway ones should be available there next week:

Cheers.

Age Policy Change: 18 & Over @ Cerrito only as of 6/22/07

Starting Friday June 22 2007, the age policy at the Cerrito will change to 18 and over rather than 21up on weekdays. All ages still admitted weekends at Cerrito but under 18 must be with an adult.

No changes at the Parkway which remains 21+ all the time except Saturday matinees and all day Sundays. (17 and over for Rocky Horror, no beer taps.)

Also starting this Friday, wristbands will be issued to anyone who gets carded at both theaters.

Cheers.

East Bay Warehouse Movie Night

Hi friends!
I have been hosting Movie Nights every other week and I want to let people in this Tribe to know about this.

I live in a warehouse in Oakland, and luckily we have a large wall where I project movies. Past films include; Shuji Terayama's "Pastoral: To Die in Country", Alejandro Jodorowsky's "El Topo", Lotte Reiniger's "The Adventures of Prince Achmed", Ken Russell's "Salome's Last Dance", Guy Maddin's "Cowards Bend The Knee" and "Heart of the World", Jan Svankmajer's "Little Otik", David Cronenberg's "Videodrome", Shinya Tsukamoto's "Tetsuo: The Iron Man", Trey Parker's "Cannibal: The Musical", and Vera Chytilová's "Daisies". Also we had two short film nights, which featured surreal/avant-gard films by Luis Bunuel, Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, René Clair, Fernand Léger, Germain Dulac, Maya Deren, David Lynch, Kenneth Anger, Svankmajer, Maddin and The Brothers Quay.

Also, we viewed silent experimental films such as Samuel Beckett's "Film", Norman McLaren's "A Phantasy", Stan Brakage's "Dog Star Man, Part 4", and my own "Black Cat". I got my musician friends together and played live experimental free music to accompany the films. I'm hoping to do this again soon.

If you are interested in similar movies like these, you are welcome to join us for popcorn and beer. Send me a message for more detail.
Nao

Article on the Cerrito Theater

Anyone have any thoughts on the SF Chronicle / SF Gate article, "Now playing in El Cerrito: a film experience for the whole family"?

From the article: "It's not in East Oakland, it's in the suburbs," says Kyle Fischer, who co-owns Speakeasy Theaters with his wife, Catherine. "They're not going to want to see the same things and they're not going to want the same funky experience (as the Parkway). It's going to be suburban funky. And that takes time to create."

I hope this doesn't mean that there's an assumption that everyone in E.C. likes things prim and proper. I've lived here for 6+ years and I think the area could use a little funky...

Movie-oke night in Oakland!!!

I'm trying to get a few female friends to join me, but no luck so far. I'd really love to play Joel in Eternal Sunshine if anyone wants to play Clementine for me :)

Thursday, November 16, 9:15

Barely Legal Productions present...
MOVIE-OKE AT THE PARKWAY, Oakland, CA
"What is Movieoke?" It's similar to Karaoke, but with movies instead of songs. People who attend Movieoke will be able get on stage and act out scenes from their favorite movies while they are being played on the Parkway screen. We'll turn on the subtitles and turn down the sound, and you get the chance to re-create thebest movies scenes live!

This is your opportunity to show off your acting chops in front of your fellow movie buffs! Bring along any props, costuming, etc. that you think will be perfect for your big scene! Do your best to re-create the scene exactly how it is in the movie, or ad-lib and make it your own; just be ready to put on a show and give it your best performance.

There will be a list of movies that we have on hand - so you may request a scene from one of the movies we have, or bring in your own DVD's to play. Come on out to show off your star qualities or just watch others make cinematic history on the Parkway Stage.

Questions? Comments? Suggestions for movies you'd like us to have at Movieoke? Email us at parkwaymovieoke@yahoo.com

If it's a hit, this'll be a regular event!

Admission: $5

Premier of Stoner's Run @ the Parkway Theater

Attention everyone. I am an Oakland filmmaker and I want to announce the premier of my first feature length film, "Stoner's Run" at the historic Parkway Theater. Please mark you calendars and support you local filmmakers.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14th 9:15pm
Parkway Theater
1834 Park Blvd.
Oakland, CA 94606
Admission: $3

Come to the screening and meet the cast and crew of this no-budget indie film. And if you had the fortune or misfortune to work on this film, come see the fruits of our labor. Stoner's Run is what indie filmmaking is all about. No money, just vision, heart and commitment.

"Stoner's Run" is about a modern day stoner who has it all. But while partying with his friends one weekend, it all comes crashing down. While trying to score some weed, Bradley and his friends set off for some good times, adventure, and of course, weed. Little do they know that they have caught the attention of narcoticsofficers who are hungry for a bust. This little adventure will turn into a journey of epic insignificance and we learn that the good times aren’t always so good.

So there's this tribe and then "The Parkway Tribe." This one seems to be better, more activity. Is there any formal way to merge two tribes?

CLERKS II at the Parkway!

Clerks II kicks ass! But now not only does it kick ass in general it kicks major ass because it's playing at the Parkway. The best movie theater in the world.

I took a break from packing to go see Clerks II opening night July 21st and it was great! So many great references to Clerks I and tons of new hilarious stuff. Totally loved it. You do NOT have to have seen the first one to enjoy this one. But, if you have seen the first one you owe it to yourself to see Clerks II. I don't want to talk it up too much because I don't want your expectations to be too high, but it's definitely worth seeing if you are a Clerks fan, Kevin Smith fan, or good movie fan.

Here are the times and dates it's playing at the Parkway, if enough people come it will carry over another week, but don't risk missing it here, see it this week:

-Friday, August 4, 2006 - Clerks 2 9:15

-Saturday, August 5, 2006 - Clerks 2 (3:00), 9:00

-Sunday, August 6, 2006 - Clerks 2 8:00
Family Night all ages welcome!

-Monday, August 7, 2006 - Clerks 2 (Baby Brigade) 6:30

-Tuesday, August 8, 2006 - Clerks 2 6:30

-Wednesday, August 9, 2006 - Clerks 2 9:15
2 For 1 Admission!

-Thursday, August 10, 2006 - Clerks 2 6:30

Remember gang, next up at The Parkway - Pacino's gangsta classic SCARFACE Thursday
June 29 at 8:30 (remember it's 3 hours of chills, spills and kills) - Speakeasy Tribe members get 2 for 1 admission (that's two people per ticket, like Wednesdays) if they show a printout of their membership, highlighting Speakeasy Theaters. Oh yea, when you present it you have to say (with a Cuban accent) "Say hello to my lil' frien'."

Parkway Pizza Party! May 26-June 1 '06

Some of you may have noticed that a lot of current movies, even the ones we
show, well...suck. This presents a particular dilemma to those of us who rely
on movie programming for a living, and who have taken on the social
responsibility of keeping our patrons entertained. We don't make the movies,
we just pick 'em - and we can only choose from what product is out there.

Another problem is, as a second run venue, many of you have to wait to see
anticipated new movies for a month or two or more after its initial release.
(Examples: "Thank You For Smoking," "Art School Confidential" etc.)

So, what to do? What can tide us over till they make "Scary Movie 5"?

Kyle and Will came up with at least a temporary solution, figuring why
should we limit ourselves to all the new sucky movies on the market when
there are hundreds of old not-so-sucky movies to choose from?

That brings us to our first weeklong PARKWAY PIZZA PARTY, beginning this
Friday May 26 and extending right thru the holiday weekend till Thursday June
1.

Of course we always serve pizza and other fabulous food brought to us by
Catherine, Melissa and our hard-working kitchen staff, which often helps make
the sucky new movies go down easier, right? What makes this a party is we're
bringing back some of YOUR FAVORITE MOVIES - y'know, fun flicks that you
would show at your own pizza party. We just have a bigger screen, more
couches, more beer and better pizza. (Well, more pizza, at least.)

Dig:

Friday May 26 9:15 & 27, 9PM
FIGHT CLUB (1999) - Brad and Ed dust it up

Sunday May 28 5PM and Monday May 29, 9:15
DONNIE DARKO (2001, Director's cut) - surreal teen fantasy

Tuesday May 30 7:00 (U) and Wednesday May 31, 9:15 (2 for 1)
FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS (1998) - Johnny does Hunter

Thursday June 1 9:15
CADDYSHACK (1980) - Bill Murray's golf classic

From time to time we'll throw more PARKWAY PIZZA PARTIES to fill the gaps in
programming, so stay tuned to this newsletter.

Watch for more of your retro-faves in the Onion AV Film Club Series ("Bottle

Tribe Nights at the Parkway - need ideas!!

The Parkway wants to start a new movie series every other month, beginning April 27 with RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. It will be called PARKWAY TRIBE NIGHT - but they need ideas for incentives to attend, marketing, presentation etc. Also, people here are welcome to "Guest Host" if interested. This will be YOUR night, to congregate, to meet, to mingle - and to mate?? (when you leave the theater, not on the couches....)

Movie ideas also welcome. It seems the 80s are pretty trendy (again??). RAIDERS has been requested frequently which is why it was chosen. Thrillville has the lock on 50s/60s/70s cult flicks, so anything after that would be prime material for TRIBE NIGHT.

Please contact Will Viharo, will@speakeasytheaters.com with any notions, thanks.

Down with Kragen

Kragen has decided that when the place closes it will tow every car in the lot. I know they have a sign that says don't park there. I am concerned with the fact that Kragen is in Kahoots with the Tow company, who makes $300 for every car towed.

yes $300 to get your car back or it sits in a shitty lot in the worst area of Oakland.

They are victimizing Park Theatre patrons for profit.

We must make this public and make them stop!

from the most recent newsletter:ATTENTION FAMILY NIGHT FANS

ATTENTION FAMILY NIGHT FANS:

It has repeatedly come to management's attention there are amongst us those who wish to spoil Sunday Family Night, our new special weekly evening wherein which we bend our normal 21 and over policy and allow all ages to all shows.

We're hereby publicly addressing allegations that some patrons are purchasing alcohol with their own ID and then attempting to pass the booze on to underage drinkers inside the auditorium. This is not only disrespectful to us as an establishment, but to their fellow patrons. This is a simple but
significant matter of social responsibility which we must all share in. We want our community to know their kids are safe with us. But we're not baby
sitters, either.

So far Family Night has proven to be very popular with its target demographics, and we're determined to see it continue as a service to those in our community normally excluded by our policy. However, just a few bad apples can ruin it for the rest of us. That's why we ask you, the mature, responsible patrons who make up the majority of our audience, to be vigilant and please report any suspicious behavior - especially the secretive sharing of alcohol with minors - immediately to the on-duty manager. Your anonymity will be secure with us.

But an admonition, and please spread the word: if this type of behavior goes
unchecked, we will be forced to discontinue Family Night altogether.

One other matter we need to mention, and this is directed at Baby Brigaders who now have this second option to visit our theater on a weekly basis: ther is no diaper-changing allowed inside the auditorium. We offer designated stations in each restroom for this purpose. Please: no poopy pants on the sofas.

Thank you for your cooperation in this experimental and hopefully permanently successful endeavor.
Live Belly Dancing at Shatner Show 7/14!

Hey Thrill Seeker...
Sadly, due to personal circumstances, my scheduled burlesque performer,
CHERRY MALONE has to bow out of SHATFEST featuring IMPULSE July 14.

BUT don't fret too much, since I'll still give you exotic beauty to drool
over and worship...my duplex neighbor and ol' pal BABY DOE hooked me up with a real live belly dancing troupe, CLANDESTINE, who will graciously take the stage instead!
http://clandestinebellydance.tribe.net/

if you've never seen IMPULSE, the ultimate William Shatner experience, it

The Parkway going to be featured on TLC

A few months ago, I proposed to my girlfriend Natasha at the Parkway. I produced a 4 1/2 minute animation (with the help of 20 animators) and at the end it said "Will you marry me?" I got Natasha to the Parkway (which, unbeknownst to her, was filled with over 100 of our friends and family), and played the animation for her up on the big screen. The whole thing was filmed for the show "Perfect Proposal" on TLC. The show is going to air June 2nd at 11am if you have Comcast, 8am if you have DirecTV.

If you want to see the animation or read more about it, I've got it posted on my website: http://www.worldofjeff.net/

Big thanks to everyone at the Parkway for their incredible help in making it all happen!
